My commitments, in writing

I work in education professionally, and voters deserve complete clarity about what that means for this role. Here is every organization I’m part of, and exactly how I will handle each.

Every affiliation

Organizations

501(c)(3) nonprofit · Executive director

PedagogyFutures

Provides teacher professional development nationally. It has no contracts with the Public Schools of Brookline and never has. Shortly after moving to town, I once offered the district free services as a new resident; the conversation went no further, and no services were ever provided.

Massachusetts LLC · Owner

PHS Capital LLC

The parent company for my business activities. Its subsidiary Pedagogy Ventures provides education consulting and technology services to universities and education organizations. Neither entity does business with the Public Schools of Brookline.

501(c)(3) nonprofit · Chief technology officer

ThinkerAnalytix

Critical thinking instruction for universities. No PSB business.

501(c)(3) nonprofit · Co-founder and chair

Academy 4 Social Civics

Free civics curricula and student programs. No PSB business.

The pledge

My pledge if elected

  1. No organization I lead, work for, or hold an interest in will do business with the Public Schools of Brookline, paid or unpaid, while I serve and for one year after.
  2. I will recuse myself from any vote or discussion involving a vendor, product, or service where I have any financial relationship or competitive interest, and I will disclose the reason publicly each time.
  3. I will file all disclosures required under the Massachusetts conflict of interest law (M.G.L. c. 268A) and complete the state ethics training before taking any vote.
  4. I will not use the office to promote my books or paid speaking, and I will donate any royalties from copies purchased by the district or its schools, should that ever occur, to the Brookline Education Foundation.
